I’ve done this track more times than I can count. It’s always my go-to when I want to get outside and stretch the legs along the coast. The walk starts from Wattamolla Picnic Area, which has all the basics: toilets, picnic tables, barbecues, and a big car park. Day entry is $12 unless you’ve got a parks pass. It’s also a great spot to start or end the day with a swim.
The track is easy to follow and mostly along boardwalks, but it still gives you beautiful views and a good dose of nature. You’ll walk through open bushland, along sandstone cliffs, and out to two standout spots:
- Eagle Rock: A sandstone formation that looks like an eagle’s beak
- Curracurrong Falls: A rare coastal waterfall that drops straight into the ocean
Not long after the start of the walk, there’s also an awesome vantage point for spotting whales during migration season. If you decide to continue along the full Coast Track, there are even more chances to spot them from various points along the cliffs.
It does get pretty busy on weekends, especially on warmer days. I’d recommend going early or heading out closer to sunset for a quieter experience. Weekdays are ideal if you can swing it.
Wildlife and Views
This trail’s always full of surprises. I’ve seen wallabies, lizards, echidnas, and birds of all kinds. Go early for a better chance at wildlife and softer light along the cliffs.
Swim Spot
Wattamolla Lagoon is calm and clear, perfect for a quick dip. Whether you swim before or after the walk, it’s a nice way to cool off and wind down.
One of my favourite coastal trails for a reason — simple, scenic, and always worth the walk.
