Embark on an 8km journey that promises an array of natural wonders, including caves, lush rainforests, and a captivating waterfall. With an elevation of 203m and an easy difficulty rating, this 2-3 hour hike is a treat for nature lovers and photographers alike.
The Limestone Caves
Your adventure begins on Lady Carrington Drive, where you should keep an eye out for a sign indicating "Limestone Cave 1.6km (return)." Venturing 800 meters down this path, you’ll encounter stunning rock formations and intricate limestone structures. The cave’s columns and stalactites are truly magnificent—be sure to capture some photos! A short walk further leads you to a beautiful cascading waterfall.
Forest Path
After exploring the caves, return to the main track and turn off to the Forest Path to continue your exploration. This path will guide you through an enchanting forest adorned with hanging vines and tall palm trees, set against a backdrop of dense, lush greenery.
Navigating Challenges
The path to Palona Cave is often quite overgrown, which can make this section more challenging to navigate due to the dense undergrowth. Extra care and attention may be needed to push through the lush vegetation and continue on the trail.
Family-Friendly Options
For those hiking with children, consider sticking to the Forest Path section loop, which is about 4.3km long. This shorter loop is less challenging but still offers a rich experience of the area’s beauty.
Best Time to Go
My personal favourite time to hike here is just after rainfall and early in the morning. While the trails might be a bit muddy, the rain enhances the forest's lushness, and the early sunlight streaming through the canopy is just stunning. Despite a little mud, the vibrant greens and magical light makes it truly worth it.
Overall Experience
All in all, this track is a wonderful exploration that showcases the best of nature’s offerings. From limestone caves to serene forest pathways and a picturesque waterfall, there’s something here for every hiker to cherish.
